A Federal and Minnesota State Criminal Defense Attorney
After practicing 5 years at a large criminal defense firm in Minneapolis, in 2010 Ryan left to create his own criminal defense practice in downtown Minneapolis. His approach to practicing criminal defense is brutal honesty with his clients, creative defenses and clear-cut writing.
Recently, Ryan acquitted clients in cases ranging from DWI, to a national interest First Amendment victory, to not guilty verdicts in felony jury trials. In late 2011, he exonerated a nurse practitioner in a very high profile Aiding First Degree Murder case in Hennepin County. Ryan practices in state and federal court, and is currently litigating a variety of federal cases ranging from White Collar Crime litigation to Tax Evasion. Within the last year he has litigated, to verdict, jury trials ranging from Assaulting a Police Officer to Federal Bank Robbery. Ryan also handles appellate issues, and in late 2011, argued before the Minnesota Court of Appeals on a homicide case.
Other than this website, Ryan does not advertise. The vast majority of Ryan's clients are referred from other lawyers, prosecutors who have litigated against him in trial, former presiding judges, and past clients. Ryan frequently represents lawyers, doctors, police officers and other professionals accused of crimes. He is often sought out on high profile cases where the stakes are high.
Ryan is a board member of the Minnesota Society of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the co-editor the Challenger Magazine. He is also a board member of the Minnesota State Bar Association (MSBA) and a frequent speaker at Minnesota Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminars. When he is not on the job, he is happily chasing his two children and not very obedient dog from piano lessons to attempted indoor soccer.
